Will 2010 Be A Good Year For The Used Car Market
Last year there was a large drop in the amount of available used cars in the UK market. As a knock on effect, prices rose and there were less used cars to choose from. The good news however, for the used car buyer is that 2010 is expected to once again show an upward trend as there should be many used cars arriving back in circulation.
It hardly came as too much of a surprise when used car lots began to empty last year. The downturn in the global economy gave many people a scare and there was a sharp decline in new car sales meaning that used cars were not appearing on the market and those that were already there were snapped up. So there was a much bigger increase in the demand for used cars but supplies soon began to be outweighed by demand. Many dealers then took advantage of the fact that used cars were big in demand and chose to increase their prices.
But the good news for the used car buyer is that 2010 is once again expected to be a good year. Used cars are appearing back on the market again as many people are now trading in their old cars against a new one. As used car lots fill up it is almost certain that prices will begin to fall and it should become a buyer's market. Buyers will still be better off shopping around though. Experts warn that the full effects of this upturn in the market will not be seen until the second half of the year as it could take a while before large companies feel confident enough to replace their car fleet.
Along with this good news for the used car buyer, comes some words of warning. There were many accidents caused by the hazardous road conditions that became commonplace this winter. As a result it is highly likely that there will be a lot of cars that have been involved in accidents being put up for sale this year. It will be up to the used car buyer to be extra vigilant to ensure they do not end up with one of these cars. There are going to be some good car deals out there in 2010, but just make sure that it really is a good deal that you are getting.
