amp settings?
hi, i have a kicker 1000.1 amp, and i was wondering what to set the gain and bass knob to on the amp. The guy at best buy said keep the gain low, (1 third to half), and turn the bass knob up to as much as the sub can take.. is he correct because i have heard differently. Also, he told me a great sub is a HK12X2 marine audio sub, the rms is 1500 watts and peak is 3000. it says the sub has Dual 2-Ohm Voice Coils. is this all ok for my amp?? thanks!
the gain is not actually a gain, it's an input sensativity knob. so if your head unit is putting out 8v, you turn it all the way down to produce the 1000 watts. if your head unit is putting out 0.5v you turn it up higher. so it's going to be different on every system.
either way though, you have to be careful with the bass boost.
the best way is to set the head unit at about 3/4 volume, and the gain at 0, turn up the gain until you start hearing distortion, then turn it back a little bit.
